Behind the Scenes
Amalgamation is the flagship international dance gala presented annually by Plié for the Arts, the Kingston-based cultural organization founded by attorney-at-law, educator, and dancer Marisa Benain. True to its name, the production is a uniting of performers from around the world to share one stage in the name of dance — a multigenre celebration that pairs Jamaica's finest talent with internationally renowned companies and choreographers.
Beyond the spectacle, Amalgamation carries a clear development mission. It exists to expose young dancers to performers beyond Jamaican shores, and proceeds fund scholarships that send local dancers to prestigious intensives at institutions such as Alvin Ailey, Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, and Complexions' NYC intensives.
